Coming to understand the full effect that declining global oil supplies will have on nearly every facet of modern life. Working to build a more sustainable Lawrence, supported by the self-reliance of our own communities, democratic and far-sighted city government, renewable energy, and a culture of values that affirms the sacredness of all life, human, plant, and animal. Launching a campaign to get our city council to pass a Peak Oil Resolution, which would create a task force to study and recommend positive actions that the municipal government can take to address the issue at a city-wide level.

Smart Growth / Wal-Mart Reform
Raising awareness on the destructive effect Wal-Mart has on towns like Lawrence. Drawing the connections between Wal-Mart and a paradigm of "economic growth" that is fundamentally unsustainable. Choosing between an old way of thinking, where urban sprawl, environmental negligence, and imbalanced social equity are the norm - and a new way of thinking, where quality of life, environmental balance, and social equality are our highest measures of progress. Working to make Wal-Mart a more responsible and ecologically sustainable corporation. Getting our local City Commission to make sound and far-sighted decisions that will improve the health and sustainability of Lawrence. Attending City Hall meetings and holding our elected officials accountable.
